While bassy beats and “gangsta rap” reign king over the urban sounds of downtown Toronto, over in Queen West, a revival of smooth sounds from the likes of Michael McDonald, and Steely Dan emanate out of a subtle and unassuming building. At Czehoski, party-goers arrived in sailor hats, gritty moustaches and souvenirs from Michael McDonald’s world tour. Here, Yacht Rock! found its home, if only until dawn.

Barron, Yacht Rock! correspondent from Toronto writes in:

The party was pretty good despite a snowstorm and freezing rain, and yeah, the music was smooth.

Most of the yacht rockers and marina rockers at the party are pretty serious about the music—one guy has been to three Michael McDonald/Steely Dan shows (I’ve got photos of the souvenir hat he picked up)—but the crowd was a little too quiet when “Hold the Line” came on (who knows).

I’ve heard that these parties are starting-off as monthly events but if turnout remains good, which springtime and summertime should help with, Czehoski will make Yacht Rock! nights weekly affairs (great news)

Keep the fire, Barron. Pictures from the party posted on flickr.
